One of the things about turning 60, is that your parents are turning 80––or more!

And one of our biggest fears is getting that phone call in the middle of the night. One of our parents has…

  • taken a fall

  • been in a car wreck

  • had a medical emergency

  • been a victim of a crime

Sadly it's become an unkind joke, but sometimes Mom has "fallen and can't get up!"

I had it happen with a friend I was caring for. He was in his 70s and took a bad fall while he was going through chemotherapy. He laid on the floor for almost 24 hours before help came.

Taking care of aging parents can be challenging. There are family dynamics to consider. Finances may be an issue. And of course with people living longer, more active lives we've always got to remember that our parents DO NOT suddenly become our children. It's not always the case, but very often our elderly parents are still relatively healthy, fully functioning mentally and they want their independence.

But––you worry about them. And that's natural. And as health and mental alertness do decline, you worry even more.

Thankfully, there are quite a few resources to ease the stress and make sure your parents are safe and secure as things start to change.

One of the challenges many of us face, especially with very independent elderly parents, is that they feel that any help is a threat to their independence. Some don't want to "wear that damn pendant" or have to keep their phone with them at all times. They consider a sign of decline and even weakness.

Others welcome the help. The thing is, that these services can increase independence for the elder parent and bring peace of mind to family, friends and caregivers.

We'll be doing full videos on many of these products and services. Two of the best we've found so far are iamfine and Mobile Help.

Let's start with iamfine…

This is a simple service that does automated check in calls. You set up a schedule of one or two calls a day, or you can pick certain days if you don't need constant check-ins. Mom or Dad gets a call and they just pick up and hit "1" or text "OK." That's it!

If the call isn't answered, iamfine will call up to 4 more times over the next hour. If there's no response, they contact you by phone, email and text depending on your preferences. And you can have multiple people in a "care circle" who will all receive messages just in case you're not available.

Here's what we like about this service:

  • Simple

  • No set-up fee

  • No special equipment

  • 2 week FREE TRIAL

The next service is one we absolutely fell in love with as we did our research. It's Mobile Help.

Mobile Help is one of the highest rated alternatives to the famous Life Alert service––and there's really no comparison. In fact, we're so sold on Mobile Help we're trying to talk Alex's Mom into it right now. We'll keep you posted on how it goes––and watch for our full video which should be posted the week of September 7th, 2020.

Mobile Help has a full range of options including the standard "pendant," but also works with fully integrated smart watch and various base station options.

Here's what we love most about Mobile Help:

  • Excellent customer service

  • Options starting as low as $19.95 a month

  • No equipment to buy––it's included in the subscription

  • 30 day RISK FREE TRIAL

  • NO long term contracts!!! Cancel any time

The first and last points were the most important to us. Alex found tons of nightmare customer service stories from other providers while Mobile Help consistently ranked as one of the best.

And the long term contracts can be a nightmare too! Especially when we're dealing with a resistant parent. We just didn't want to lock-in to a year or more not knowing if Mom would stick to the program. And if you are comfortable making a longer commitment, you get a nice discount.

We're going to keep digging to find you more reliable services to help you take care of Mom & Dad and keep your sanity and well being along the way!

Meanwhile, be sure to watch our first video in the series where we share the Top 3 Steps you need to consider––and hopefully long before you face any kind of emergency or crisis.

And PLEASE! If you have experience with any of the services we review, positive or negative, please share your comments here and at TheBig60.Life! Let's share and help one another as we learn and grow.

Be sure to subscribe at TheBig60.Life so you'll know when we post new videos––and so you'll be in the loop as we launch our full online program and networking groups!

Taking care of elderly parents can be challenging, but it can also be very gratifying too. We'll be with you every step of the way!
